Relationship Vs Transactional Behaviour-The Long-term Difference in Life & Business!

Understanding the true importance of these two behaviors is absolutely vital in life. These behaviors share a profound psychological connection, though their ultimate results are remarkably distinct.

Transactional relationships are all about give and take. They are characterized by short-term interactions that do not have long-term implications. It is important to understand that in such relationships, each person involved is looking for immediate benefits or gains.

The relationship is a profound and enduring commitment that greatly influences the establishment of a strong foundation. This conduct fosters trust within the circle, promoting long-term sustainability.

Transactional behavior may offer immediate gratification, but it is the nurturing of relationships that truly cultivates long-term happiness, both in life and business.

“I believe that ordinary individuals have the ability to make an extraordinary choice.” – Elon Musk

Let’s delve deeper into the various phases of an ordinary Girl’s transformation into someone extraordinary, as she embraces Relationships over Transactional Behaviour in her Life!

Student Life: Life is a game, and its objective is to maintain a sustainable pace without succumbing to burnout or giving up. As a student, her aspiration is to secure admission to an IIT. However, cracking the entrance exam is the key to achieving this goal. She must envision herself being accepted and studying at an IIT. This emotional connection is akin to a marriage with her dream, establishing a strong relationship. Each day she sets small milestones, in the form of exams, to evaluate her preparation progress. Sometimes she fails, while other times she excels, but she perceives these achievements and setbacks as mere transactions. By keeping her emotional bond with her dream intact, these transactions may bring disappointment or happiness. She neither excessively celebrates her small wins nor becomes disheartened by losses. This long-term relationship she has built with her dream as a student will cultivate resilience, enabling her to persevere throughout her preparation journey without getting burnt out, until she realizes her dream of attending an IIT.

Corporate Life: Now she has achieved the goal of landing an enviously high-paying corporate job. However, she already has her sights set on a new dream – becoming an entrepreneur in the next 10 years. Her passion for this new dream has formed a strong bond within her, enabling her to navigate the inevitable ups and downs of her corporate career without losing sight of her ultimate goal. Taking on this corporate role is a strategic move on her part, allowing her to gain valuable insights into various processes, recruitment of crucial resources, revenue generation, and the importance of effective teamwork. This experience is molding her character, transforming her from a dedicated student to a determined, budding entrepreneur.

Married Life: During her journey in life, she got married to a wonderful person. She is completely in love with her hero. However, this love didn’t happen overnight. They engaged in some mundane and uneventful activities together in their everyday life, without expecting immediate results. For instance, she had a fantastic day at her office and was eager to share it with her hero when he returned home. But upon his return, she discovered that he had a very difficult day at work. She patiently listened to him, setting aside her own exciting story, and even prepared hot coffee for both of them. She couldn’t pinpoint the exact moment she fell in love with him, but it happened during those small, seemingly boring activities. If she had only focused on instant results from these mundane activities, she might have become exhausted in her love life. These activities might have been viewed as mere transactions, seeking immediate pleasure, rather than steps towards building a strong and lasting relationship with her husband.

Entrepreneurial Journey: She has now amassed enough money and knowledge from her previous corporate experiences to bring her idea to fruition as a business. Along her journey, she invites like-minded individuals to join her founding team, individuals who deeply resonate with her purpose (an idea that aims to address a significant societal problem). This purpose is focused on the long-term, fostering a connection among team members that transcends monetary transactions. For them, money (creating wealth) is merely a by-product that will naturally flow as they work towards solving the problem. During the initial stages, discussions solely centered around revenue (transactional matters) may not foster a sense of unity within the Core Team. As the Founder, she instills the belief she holds in her Founding Team, who, in turn, will propagate this belief as they recruit their own team members. The entire onboarding process is built on Relationships, not Transactions. A team built on Relationships brings passion to the forefront, whereas transactional behavior tends to foster a job-oriented mentality that does not contribute to the growth of a Startup. Now, armed with all the knowledge she gained from her corporate life (excluding the politics and silos), she brings her energy to the table, infusing the entire team with the momentum needed to achieve the escape velocity that will propel them into their dream orbit.

Definitely, even though experiencing ups and downs along the way, she will have a roller coaster ride until she achieves her ultimate goal. However, her resilience and belief in maintaining positive relationships enable her to succeed in every stage of her life.

Choosing a relationship over transactional behavior has the power to transform an ordinary person into someone extraordinary. I sincerely hope that you found this read enjoyable!
